Story
Why have I agreed to leap out of a plane?WHY?! Even if it is for charity, I'm a complete wuss and the thought of it is making me ill. Anyway, it would have to be pretty good reason so please read on...
The company I work for supports Plan, an incredible child-centred community development charity, with a specific focus on education. Our project for the coming year is a school in Rwanda, a country still striving to rebuild its economy. There are lots and lots of worthwhile causes out there but I think that education, and particularly with children is a pretty good place to start. More info:
Location: Ndama Primary School, Gatsibo District, Rwanda.
Aim: To improve the quality of basic education at the school by improving the learning environment.
Details: Ndama Primary School has 156 pupils. The school has very poor infrastructure which this project aims to address. Hobsons will support the construction of 3 classrooms at the school, a latrine block and installation of a water tank. Some furniture for classrooms will also be provided. Through the project teachers at the school will also be provided with training as will the school management committee and children’s committee. This training will ensure successful management of the school in the long term, ensuring that the project is sustainable.
Overall budget $80,000 USD.
So, to help raise money to build this school, I am going to jump out of a plane this September with some of my work colleagues. The pictures you can see here are of what we did last year for the Techiman community in Ghana.
A little more about Plan - Plan empowers communities in 48 of the worlds poorest countries and gives them the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty. Our fundraising helps to build a school with computers, learning resources, proper buildings, qualified teachers, safe drinking water as well as providing emotional support and equipping the children with life skills. Any contributions you can make and words of support you have will be brilliant. I am excited but really nervous and your encouragement will be brilliant.
Thank you so much you lovely people!
