The training's going well. There are two of us doing the marathon this year – yet again it came about after a fairly boozy evening.

Ben, the fat marathon veteran, has been pounding the pavement around SW1 determined to better his previous time (he is aiming for a finish on the 17th) and Michael is getting close to breaking the 22mile mental barrier!

We are running for Diabetes UK - the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition. Ben has been a diabetic for 15 years and the charity has been a great support to him.

Diabetes UK has 150,000 members and represents the interests of all people with diabetes by lobbying the government for better standards of care and the best quality of life. The charity aims to invest over £6 million in research in 2011 to improve the treatment of diabetes and search for a cure.

Diabetes UK's mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes
