Story

On Sunday 21st of April 2024 I'm running the London Marathon for the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC).

I have chosen to run for RSBC because they have been a great help to my family during our daughters diagnosis of Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS1). This diagnosis means that Isabella will become blind during her life, most likely in the time frame between 15-25 years of age, but definitely by the time she is 40.  This is unbelievably sad news to receive, for us and many other families in similar situations. RSBC has been a great support to us doing these difficult early days, trying to come to terms with our and Isabella's future being completely changed from what we otherwise had expected for our daughter, who is currently 11 years old. Isabella is aware her sight has changed a little and may change further. Isabella is currently unaware that her sight will completely go, please be mindful that we need to keep it that way and not discuss this information with children nearby whom Isabella knows.

During the diagnosis appointment back in January 2023, we were told that there is nothing that can be done, and there is nothing we can do to change the outcome. This news remains difficult to accept, I have however identified this fundraising event as something positive I can do for RSBC to say thank you for their help so far, and to help them raise funds so that they can continue to offer support and events for us and other families during what is a very difficult time, coming to terms with such diagnosis and for the future that awaits.

Thank you for reading this and I hope for your support. I know that RSBC will put your funds to a very good use !
