Without the help of the BHF (British Heart Foundation) and their research, I probably wouldn't be here to tell my story - let alone do the run!

On the eve of my operation, after the surgeon had explained the full procedure and the benefits I would get from it, I told him I wanted to be able to run a half marathon.

 I am determined to complete the promise I made to the surgeon and to myself within 2 years of the operation. In September this year, I intend to fulfil this by completing the GNR (Great North Run).

I truly appreciate the super work that the BHF do, and also the fantastic work the surgeon performed.  Because of this, I can now look forward to a much longer and healthier future with my wife and family. I would like to take this opportunity to give a little something back by raising money through the GNR, so that they may continue giving others the care and support that I received.

I would also like to acknowledge the grateful support of my 2 sons and 4 close family friends, who will be running with me.  Most importantly though, I cannot forget my wife Sue, who has supported and cared for me every step of the way on my journey to recovery.  She is my rock and is by far the most important member of the team.
