Story

Sunday 10th August - Final Update

All done and no cycling today. As I look back with tired legs, I reflect that unlike previous adventures, I will remember my journey not for the beautiful landscapes, the sheer physical effort, the hardships and the many elations. I will remember it for the goodness in people which at times has overwhelmed me. A tremendous voyage of discovery, not of the British Isles but of the deep generosity and kindness of the people who live within it. Thank you so much to everyone. For Lucy May.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On 23rd July, I will begin riding my mountain bike from John o'Groats to Land's End to raise money for the AMMF Charity. Lucy-May Thomsett, a young woman of 29 and dear friend who I've known since childhood has been diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma Cancer. Unfortunately, a liver-transplant is not an option. Her strength and smile has become an inspiration and in the face of huge uncertainty, she is looking forward to marrying her fiancé, Liam in the Autumn. My cycle ride is simply a way of raising awareness for this little known disease and to get what money I can for further research.

I don't know whether anyone has ridden this route by mountain bike and back-pack before but your donations will make the hills (and bivvy-bag nights) seem easier. I hope to reach Land's End by 10th August although this may be very wishful thinking. Thank you for any support you can give and if my efforts do anything to help Lucy-May and those who follow, then I will have achieved something great.
