On the 31st July 2010, I'll be heading to Chamonix with two friends (Duncan Hamer & Dave Kemble) to try and reach the summit of Mont Blanc, Western Europe's highest peak, and raise funds for Christie's Hospital in Manchester.

The idea for this trip was conceived around about the time my Mum was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of cancer. Fortunately, this particular cancer was treatable and Mum was placed in the hands of The Christie Hospital in Manchester. Thanks to the brilliant treatment, care and support she received at Christie's, she's now on the road to recovery and we are extremely grateful for everything they have done.

All donations will go to The Christie Charity, which raises money to fund projects at The Chrisite NHS Foundation Trust, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 40,000 patients a year. It provides radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.

The Christie is also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.  They run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on The Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
