Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
For those of you that know us, you will know that Simon and I are not natural runners and are rather partial to the odd glass of wine or two! This means that from your perspective, you know you are getting value for money in terms of the pain we will face to achieve our goal.
Despite this, we are both running the London Marathon this year. Whilst we have both said for years that we would like to run it (whilst sitting on our sofa with a cold glass of Chablis) we have now been given the opportunity to run for an amazing charity.
As most of you will know, Simon has been affected by a rare genetic eye condition called Bests disease. This disease affects the macular at the back of the eye and at its worst form it attacks the macular cells thus destroying them, and your central vision. It has resulted amongst other things in not being able to drive and being registered sight impaired.
It has been a difficult journey for us all, not least because we found out that our youngest daughter Emily also has the defective gene, meaning there is a possibility she could be affected by the condition one day.
As with everything, money is required to fund research into finding the cure for this disease with gene therapy or stem cells, hence us doing our small bit by running the London Marathon.
We are well into our training schedule now, we have watches and proper trainers so all the gear! It has been a bit of a shock to the system, but we are enjoying preparing for what we hope to be an fantastic day for an amazing cause that will long term positively impact all people from all countries with many currently untreatable and incurable diseases.
If you can donate it would be hugely appreciated and you will get the smug satisfaction of truly enjoying our pain as you know we will not be able to let you down.
Thank you in advance for your donation, and if you are free on 23rd April, come and give us a wave!
