Story
In June 2012 I had to have my right eye surgically removed (a childhood eye infection came back to haunt me). At one point, unable to focus properly with my remaining eye and in extreme pain, I was so ill I could not get out of bed. 4 months later I received my prosthetic eye and I knew I faced a decision. Either I cry into my pillow for the rest of my life at the sheer injustice of it all or I get tough and channel my frustration, anger and relief in to something positive. I am lucky. I have perfect vision in my remaining eye. I can still see the beautiful smiles on my children's faces. I appreciate the beauty that surrounds me more than ever.
In April, I will be running (ok jogging, walking, crawling, hailing a cab to get round) the London Marathon for the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Please help me to help the 180,000 people whose vision is so limited that they cannot leave their own homes alone. A guide dog changes their lives forever. Your donation, however big or small, will help a playful puppy complete their journey in to becoming an inspirational guide dog and give a blind or partially sighted person their freedom back.
I am also working with the national media to raise awareness of the infection I caught - Toxacariasis. Yes, this is a rare infection. But, with hundreds of piles of dogs' mess still being left on our streets & some owners failing to regularly worm their pets, this infection could be picked up by ANY child and lead to severe irreversible sight loss.
