Story
Update: Monday 30th August 2010
I did it! I reached Lands End yesterday (Sunday 29th August) after 1,174 miles in 56 days (an average of 21 miles each day)! I loved it all though and ended with 3 days of glorious sun in Cornwall. Thank you for any support you can give. :0)
This summer I am "making a difference" by attempting to raise £5,000+. I intend to do this by walking John O Groats to Lands End (1,180 miles) for MacMillans Cancer Care and the British Heart Foundation (BHF), alone and unsupported. This will take the whole of my summer holiday and a bit more! I have a 60 day window to achieve it and get home!
I have chosen to support BHF since it is a charity very close to my heart! The friend who was originally hiking with me has had recent heart troubles, as has my mother and other close friends. The British Heart Foundation does important work in research and patient care and similarly needs funding in order to continue its vital work!
I have chosen MacMillans Cancer Care for similar emotional ties. Recently many family, friends and colleagues have experienced cancer themselves or in their immediate families. For those with terminal cancer MacMillans has been "a god-send", supporting the relatives and caring for the patients. Many involved have said that they wouldn't have coped without MacMillan's support ... but of course this needs to be funded!
So please be as generous as you can and assist me in my quest to help others by either sponsoring me on this page for BHF or on my other page for MacMillans.
Thank you very much in advance for anything that you can contribute!
Nancy
