Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have (perhaps foolishly) decided to run the Manchester Marathon in memory of my Dad. I’m underprepared and thoroughly dreading it but I will make sure I finish it by hook or by crook. I’ve been training for a couple of months now and your sponsorship will help keep me motivated and remind me why I’m doing this.
I’ll be raising money for Bolton Hospice where my Dad spent the last 10 days of his life in July 2017. My Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in June and rapidly declined after that. When the Macmillan nurses first suggested he go to a hospice I must admit that I was horrified, having never been to a hospice and holding all the usual preconceptions about a place like that. However, from the first minute we walked in we were 100% sure he was in the right place.
The staff who work there are nothing short of heroes and they allowed us to enjoy our last moments as a family whilst they took care of my Dad. We were allowed to stay overnight, we took the dogs and they accommodated all of my Dad’s visitors, no questions asked. In times of heartache the nurses were also there to just listen to us and a simple gesture like that means so much. Nothing was too much trouble and we can’t thank them enough.
Bolton Hospice relies on donations to keep running so I would be grateful of any donation you could make. I’m aiming to raise £2992 which would cover the cost of running all of the hospice’s patient and family care and support services for eight hours.
