Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Here we are again it's 2019 and we're already booked in for another sponsored walk around Loweswater in October. Your continued support has been incredible and we sincerely thank you very much for that; but CKCDF always needs cash so we decided from the beginning to keep the page open so that you can see year on year how much you have raised. We hope you will continue to support us. If you are a new visitor to our page please read the story below and discover how we got involved with this wonderful charity run completely by volunteers.

In May 2017 we hosted a house concert with an amazing man and musician called Francis Dunnery. After the concert I got to share a story with Francis about a local family who were raising funds for their son Rory who has Cerebral Palsy. His dad Jim launched Rory's Rhizotomy Riff Challenge to try and raise enough funds to pay for a major operation for Rory which was not available on the NHS.

The Riff Challenge came to the attention of musicians across the world, and as a result, 125 videos have had more than 160,000 views on social media raising a total of £16,825 for the life changing operation which Rory has now had.

Not only did Francis record his own riff (reaching a huge audience and boosting donations worldwide) he arranged for his charity The Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund to give a lump of cash towards Rory's operation too.

We think that was an incredibly generous and selfless thing to do and so want to give back to this amazing charity that gives so much to families with poorly children.

We were invited to attend a charity weekend with Francis to raise money for more children just like Rory who need a helping hand. The sponsored walk takes place in late October and we hope to reach our next target by then.

We would really appreciate your help, we know everyone wants your hard earned cash but please give what you can, however small, collectively we will make a huge difference.

Thank You

Neil and Sue Gowland xx
