I'm well known to friends and family that I find it hard to say "no" to a new challenge; so when the opportunity came along to sign myself up for a trek to Everest Base Camp, and to do it for Kidney Research, I didn't have to think twice!  

Kidney Research UK is a fantastic charity and one close to my heart. Jen (my big sister) was diagnosed with Membraneous Nephritis (renal disease) in 1991 and since then has been undergoing care which culminated in a live kidney transplantation in February 1993 - my mum was the donor! Jen is amazing, and has the capability to remain positive, resilient and vivacious despite various complications and set backs she's had. Despite undergoing a major operation, she graduated from University in the summer of 1993; has travelled; has abseiled the Bristol Children's Hospital building; and currently teaches in a challenging and deprived area in Camden.  Whilst I would put a lot of her achievements down to her vivacity and general outlook on life; she couldn't have done it without the care and medication she's received for her kidney disease.

Kidney Research UK aims to fund life-saving research into kidney disease; increase public awareness of this disease; and to improve the quality of life of those with kidney diseases like Jen. Kidney Research UK depends on the support of the general public to generate the income for funding their life saving research and I'm so proud to be supporting such a great cause!!
