Me " I don't run for the Bus! “
I am raising funds by tackling the Bath Half Marathon for Stratton House MHA.
Stratton House is run by lovely people for lovely people and my mum over 45 years helped at this home and when she became to frail to look after herself became a resident. It was her home for over 5 happy fulfilled years before dementia over took her life and she does in February this year
My mother Myrtle Berry was a much respected retired teacher and church member who spent all her life and used her many skills to help others. She made an decorated wedding cakes , sewed knitted made cards for the diabetic society and passed on many of her skills to others and used them for the benefit of many. She took in folk who needed a home ( she had a big house) and did what she could to help anyone in need.
In tribute to her courage and dedication and her strong faith I agreed to the Bath Half Marathon Challenge (the place where she settled after coming to Bath Domestic College).
I started running 9 months ago after being persuaded by my daughter to attempt the Couch to 5K challenge. After 6 weeks with my daughter pushing very hard I achieved the unbelievable target of 5K. No mean feat for a confirmed none runner with a hip replacement 10 years previous ( clearly not worn out by running at that point).
As my mum started to decline I signed up for the Bath Half Marathon some 10 weeks away. Sadly my mum passed away 6 weeks away from the race, leaving me sad and regretful that I had not done this years before.
Her loss has left me more determined than ever to both completed this challenge and raise as much money as I can to support the home my mother loved and in doing so continue their good works for other elderly people.
So, I am asking you my friends colleagues and acquaintances to please support my cause and help make a small part of the world a better place.
Thanking you for taking the time to read this and hopefully donate,
Wish me luck!
