Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Virgin London Marathon in April 2010 to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity.  This is a charity close to my heart as my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2008.  He is responding well to treatment and is currently in remission.

I have always wanted to run a marathon and was honoured to be chosen by the Prostate Cancer Charity for one of their golden bond places.  My aim is to get round the 26 mile course the best i can, raise the £2,000 target and most importantly make my dad proud.

Donations greatly appreciated however small.  Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

***Update***

Its the middle of March and i thought i would update everyone on my training.  I am now up to 14 miles which is the furthest i have ever run.  I am currently running around 25 miles a week which is quite tiring but i seem to be hanging in there.  I have finally discovered the advantages of wearing an ipod whilst running and i am keeping myself going with the thought of all the support i have received.

THANK YOU to all of you who have already donated, it is much appreciated.  Thank you also to all of you that have visited this page.  In the meantime i will keep on running !!!!!

****Update 2****

It's 26th March and today i completed my longest run ever.  With Nick (hubby) riding on his bike beside me, i managed to run 20 miles which i was so chuffed with.  The aim was to complete 18 but when i got to 16 miles i felt ok so decided to aim for 20 miles instead.  I must say my toes are now covered in water blisters but i feel fab for having achieved the 20 mile distance.  I am hoping that having got to 20 miles i will beable to push on further to the 26.2 miles of the marathon on the day.

I was really pleased to have my marathon story in this weeks County Times and  Thank You to those of you who have visited this page as a result of the article.

***Update 3***

Its Friday 23rd April and only a day to go till the big day!!!!!! I collected my marathon number today in London and must admit i am starting to feel rather nervous at the prospect of running 26 .2 miles, especially if it is as hot as the weather forecast predicts.  Thanks again for all donations and i will update again after the marathon.

***Update 4***

I DID IT !!!!!! its Monday 26th April and my legs and feet don't want to move!!!  I manage to get round the 26.2 mile course all be it a little slower than i hoped but i completed it.  My official time was 5 hours and 17 minutes.  My aim was to try and run the whole course by my legs and feet had other ideas!!   Unfortunately i didn't have the power in my legs to run the whole distance but got through by running with a few walking breaks.  The atmosphere was amazing and the cheers from the crowds really kept me going.  I am so pleased that i did it and am extremely grateful that the just giving total is going up and up.  Many thanks to my family and friends that came on the day to support and also to all my friends that looked out for me on the TV.  I did look out for some celebs to try and attach myself to, with the hope of getting on tv but most of the time was running alongside Scooby Doo and a Womble who i believe finished before me!!!!!
