Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

28-30/08/10 Three in a row Bank Holiday training ride. Feel prepared but we shall see.

31/08/10 Bike service after 1200m and then courier takes it away. No turning back now.

04/09/10 Off to Penzance by train in the sunshine. Hope it lasts. Reassembled bike bits. Met up with group. Quick spin and enjoyed Altantic views.

05/10/10 Photo-opp. by L.E. sign post. All excited. Misty and wet; knew weather may not last. Lunch at spectacular Hells' Mouth Cafe.Training paid off over hilly first day.

06/09/10 Bodmin Moor or less? What a day. Rain all the way. Mobile and me soaked. Will both try to dry out overnight. 50+ miles today and 5000ft of ascent.

07/09/10 Today's leg is the same distance & elevation as yesterday but  a world away from its tempest. Mostly sunny and only a few sheep on Dartmoor to worry us.

Still incommunicado after phone fails to respond to hair dryer treatment.

10/09/10 Having crossed into Wales via Severn Bridge yesterday we will now head directly north from Chepstow to Hereford. More rain but lighter.

11/09/10 Joined by Ian my husband for 55m ride through much of leafy & undulating Shropshire and also met up with my sister and her family. A lovely day but after a full week, feeling weary.

12/09/10 Sad to wave off family but am feeling renewed. Easy ride to Acton Bridge (Cheshire) Arrived early enough to book restaurant and will all go out for big bowls of pasta!

13-15/09/10 Northern England passed in a mix of dull urban roads but mostly beautiful rural scenery, rain & northerly head winds. Highlights were red squirrels, neolithic ley lines, hugging dowsers, etc.

16/09/10 A gruelling day of 69m to reach Scotland (65m + 4m unplanned by mistake) Ian met me at the night's stop. Almost too tired to climb stairs but rest day tommorrow. Yippee!

17/09/10 All plans for excursions from beautiful Borders town of Moffat on rest day soon abandoned in favour of rest, bike-tuning, eating, rest, a walk, rest, more food and bed! Just what I needed.

18/09/10 Left Ian behind and back into the saddle. Made it without incident to edge of Glasgow but against a now very unhelpful westerly head wind. How can it tell we'd changed from a northerly route?

19-25/90/10 Made our way north through Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Loch Awe and Fort William in a mixture of heavy rain, wind and mist. Occasional glimpses of mountain and moorland bathed in patches of sunlight. On the wildlife front, saw red deer. Also a sail through fish & chip shop and a flying boat.

Then to Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness before heading north through deserted highland scenery for another soaking. Fell ill on the Wednesday night. At any other time would have stayed in bed but had to press on. Took eight hours to do the 50+mile stage. Grim. Marginally better for the last day going east to Jo'G. Took detour to Dunnet Head to see the Orkneys and then the finish line!

Now back at home both elated and deflated all at the same time. Thank you for all the fantastic support you have given me. It has been very much appreciated by me and the charity. Love, N.
