Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I regularly walk with 'The VIP Boys' (Vagabonds, Itinerants and Pikeys! - our name for the group) and have done many long distance walks with them over the last 15/16 years and I've done the 3 Peaks with my BNI friends. But this is the big one!
John Street, one of my BNI colleagues, a friend and a very inspirational and committed man, runs this charity - he wants to eradicate child poverty - a really huge ask; but focusses on giving the children (and their parents) of Nechells in Birmingham, support, direction and purpose in their lives, when urban poverty conditions them to have no self worth, pride or purpose. In a world dogged by drugs, abuse & knife crime every City needs a John Street and this is my attempt to do a bit to help.
So, on 16th October I'm flying to Tanzania to attempt Kilimanjaro. My son Alex is also coming to support his old man and there are 8 of us in total - 6 men & 2 ladies (a total of 6 from BNI) and of course now I'm 65 I'm the eldest as usual! I've trained for the last 2/3 months and I think I'm now fit enough to deal with the distance, but altitude is the unknown quantity for us all!
Anyway I'm going to give it my best and if you feel able to support me and the group, please be generous and donate via this page. Thank you.
