Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have nothing, to live in a slum 10 meters from the village dump. To wake up every morning, & have one goal for your day….to survive. The only way you can do that is to try and find either something to eat or sell by rummaging on the dump. You are joined by children as young as 2 years old, also trying to find an existence. There is no work. There was no help until a local charity founded in April 2005 stepped in to try an improve life. The Walk Centre with the help of donations and volunteers built a school that now has over 300 pupils. The aim of the Charity is to provide the children with the basic human right to education, regular meals and offer them an alternative way of life - also giving their parents or guardians a skill to be able to support their family to have a better life, different to that which they have unfortunately been accustomed to. In September of 2010, 10 friends (Nik Anyon, Kevan Baylie, Martlin Hadley, Max Hadley, Chris Lewin, Charles Maher, Clare & Patrick Maher, Marie Brocklebank & George Terrell are organising a trip to Nakuru in Kenya for a 2 week visit to help with building, teaching in the school and helping with family visits in the slum. Our aim is to raise money for building or school materials and not to fund individuals in the group.
