Story

Noah is 8 years old and is autistic. He loves to be outside. He doesn’t like busy places. He doesn’t see danger. He can get overwhelmed with things that the average person may not even notice.

These days many people know and are beginning to understand Autism, recognising the statement above with its familiar traits. But what you may not see is the impact this can have on a family just wanting to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

Noah is at his happiest when being pulled along behind a bike in his trailer or experiencing everyday activities from the security of his buggy. These spaces are safe havens to him, somewhere he can manage sensory overloads but still enjoy the movement he loves to feel.

Whilst Noah is still of ‘slight’ build he is growing rapidly and we have found at he is now too tall for his bike trailer and is too leggy for his buggy. He will not sit on a tag-along bike and has no interest in riding a bike of his own - and the safe place of his buggy is getting smaller and smaller.

We would like to take the opportunity to raise funds for him to have a new type of tag-along - one that gives him the feel of a normal bike whilst giving him the safety element he needs of a bike trailer. The Weehoo iGo is the perfect solution for Noah and this combined with a new buggy will allow him to continue to experience the activities he loves.

So we - Noah’s mum and dad and good friend Vicky - are going to take ourselves out of our comfort zone and cycle 30 miles from Wroxham to Happisburgh (and back) to help raise funds for Noah’s Weeho iGo and buggy on Saturday 22 September.

As well as raising awareness of Autism, we are hoping to gather enough funds so we can help other families in similar situations and will also pass on Noah’s items to a family like ours once he has outgrown them.

If you would like to join us for all or part of our cycle ride please let us know. It would be lovely to share the journey with you.
