We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone.

Story

We are all part of the Global Support Team at Ogier and we want to help support and raise money for Mind Jersey.

11 members of Ogier have taken up the Step Challenge - Clare Graham, Carol Richard, Charlotte Dixon, Bridie Hunter, Dani Edwards, Holly Bratley, Lisa Gower, Kate Noble, Maria Barker, Sandie Clayton and Suzan Palmer.  As a team we are aiming to clock up 4,650,000 steps (15,000 each per day) over the month of August.  Our aim is to raise at least £2,000 for Mind Jersey.  We will be posting our step count log and updates on the justgiving page to see how far we have walked.  We are setting ourselves this challenge because we want to raise awareness for mental health issues as very often its 'taking that first step' to admit that we have an issue or to ask for help that is the biggest challenge.  This is all for a good charity and we will step up to the challenge and improve our fitness to raise money for Mind Jersey!

Mind Jersey are a small and independent local Mind Health charity. Its vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all and treats people with experience of mental distress, fairly, positively and with respect.  They provide support and help so that people can take control of their mental health and live full lives.  All funds raised in Jersey remain in Jersey.

Please help us by raising money by donating through our JustGiving page.

Depression, anxiety and panic attacks are not signs of weakness.  They are signs of trying to remain strong for far too long.  Mental health is just like physical health: everybody has it and we need to take care of it.

Good mental health means being generally able to think, feel and react in the ways that you need and want to live your life.  but if you go through a period of poor mental health you might find the ways you're frequently thinking, feeling or reacting become difficult, or even impossible, to cope with.  This can feel just as bad as a physical illness, or even worse.

Mental health problems affect around one in four people in any given year.   They range from common problems, such as depression and anxiety, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Experiencing a mental health problem is often upsetting, confusing and frightening - particularly at first.  If you become unwell, you may feel that it's a sign of weakness, or that you are 'losing your mind'.

These fears are often reinforced by the negative (and often unrealistic) way that people experiencing mental health problems are shown on TV, in films and by the media.  This may stop you from talking about your problems, or seeking help.  This, in turn, is likely to increase your distress and sense of isolation.

However, in reality, mental health problems are a common human experience.

Most people know someone who has experienced a mental health problem.  They can happen to all kinds of people from all walks of life.  And its likely that, when you find a combination of self-care, treatment and support that works for you, you will get better.
