Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 26th September, the 100 Black Men of London is launching our inaugural Black Icons walkathon. This is a 5km sponsored walk where participants will dress up as a Black icon (contemporary or historical) to raise funds for the 2010/11 100BMOL mentoring programme.
I will be dressed up as one of my greatest living heroes, Nelson Mandela. (I was going to do Muhammed Ali, but didn't fancy floating like a butterfly and being stung by bees all over South London!). Madiba Mandela needs no introduction, and I hope that you will all recall his life of service and love for humanity which we are trying to emulate in the 100BMOL and support our efforts accordingly.
100BMOL has been running its community life-skills mentoring programme for the past 9 years without a penny in public funds. I have chosen the sum of 250 pounds as my fundraising targets because this is the amount each member of the 100BMOL pays as membership dues each year. This is also the average cost for sponsoring two young people through the programme over a course of a year.
So please donate generously - every little helps towards me reaching the target, and if you ask nicely, I might even do a forfeit in addition to the fancy dress. But you would have to be the highest donor on the day before the walk to qualify - and be warned: I won't be breaking the law for any amount!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you!
