Story
The success of last year’s Oriel ^3, a 110km cycle ride from Oriel (College, Oxford) to Oriel (our offices in the City) by Oriel (staff and family), has spurred us on to undertake the event again this year. Last year’s inaugural event benefitted charity by over £20,000 and was also a great team building event for staff, most of whom were not regular cyclists. This year’s ride will take place on Sunday 10 October over the same course. Around half the firm will be involved, together with one or two friends, including a team of "real cyclists" from the Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! cycle racing team.
We are again raising funds for our chosen local charity, the Blackfriars Settlement, which provides support to the communities of North Southwark and North Lambeth: http://www.blackfriars-settlement.org.uk/home. Last year’s fundraising secured the continuation of key mental health and older people’s services which would otherwise have closed during the year due to lack of funding. This year its funding needs are even more acute - not only are vital services being cut back due to the funding crisis being experienced by local authorities and other key funders, but Blackfriars Settlement is also at the early stage of a major capital project redeveloping its main site in Southwark.
