Story
We are raising money for Little Angels Service Dogs, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that places life changing service dogs with children and adults with disabilities. As a nonprofit, Little Angels never requires recipients to pay for a dog. Instead, recipients are encouraged to get involved with fundraising. Training these highly skilled dogs costs Little Angels an average of $38,000 to raise, care for, train, and place one service dog. We are raising money for Little Angels to continue their important work while we wait for Oscar's life-changing fur-ever friend.
Personal Story:
Oscar had a fairly typical first year of life, but we noticed his words were coming quite a bit slower than they had for his brother and sisters. He's a kid always on the move - jumping, running, hanging upside down, swinging - whatever he can do to feel comfortable in his body. He's also had a lot of trouble with transitions between activities and changes in his routine, and he began to lose the progress he had made with his language.
After we started quarantining due to the pandemic, we had a very traumatic situation where Oscar eloped from our home. Thankfully he was found safe, but we needed to make sure he wouldn't set out on his own adventure again! A few months later he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and we began looking into getting an autism service dog for him.
Service dogs can be trained to do a variety of specific tasks to help children with autism. Dogs can provide deep pressure therapy, they can provide medical alert to distract from self-harming behavior, they can be tether-trained to prevent elopement in public places, and they can perform a search to find a missing child. Oscar has always loved our pets and other dogs, so we believe a service dog will be the perfect companion for him to assist with his daily needs.
As you can imagine it is not cheap to raise and train an Autism Service Dog. But with your help Little Angels Service Dogs can provide these dogs to kids like our son.
FYI all the money you donate is tax deductible as Little Angels Service Dogs is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

From Little Angels: We train dogs to assist their recipients with Mobility Tasks, Seizure & Diabetic Alert, Hearing Loss, Autism, PTSD, Panic Attacks as well as many other needs. Most of the dogs we place are puppies that have come from our own breeding program and are raised from birth with the specific goal of being an Assistance Dog. Others are lucky enough to be rescued from local shelters and rescue programs and end up changing the lives of others. Each dog's training is personalized to help their individual handler's needs.
