We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

In December last year my wife Kate was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Breast Cancer.  Thankfully the tumor was caught early and had not reached the Lymph nodes.  Within 5 days of diagnosis the tumor was removed.  Since then Kate has had to endure Chemotherapy at the highest dose for 6 months followed by daily Radiotherapy for 2 months.  From now we expect to have doses of Herceptin every 3 weeks over the next year.  With all of this we hope that the chances of the cancer returning will be minimized.  Needless to say the last 9 months have been torture for Kate and a huge stress on the family.  With all of this however we remain truly grateful for the early diagnosis, the super care and treatment we have had and for the fact the Herceptin is now available...and we pray that all that has been done will stop this ever coming back and Kate will bounce back to full health again.

There are many others, and we may well be of them in the future, who are not so lucky.  They are in a position where there is no way to cut out the cancer and are terminally ill.  This is a time where maximum care is really vital and were the chance to pass their last days with dignity in a hospice, or better still at home with the care they need makes a HUGE difference.

Marie Curie spends $10M every hour of every day directly on nursing, hospices and research to maximize the number of people who have the choice to be cared for at home or in a hospice.  2 quotes  from their website for me really stood out

'The last days of our dad's life were the saddest we have ever known but at your hospice we found a little bit of heaven'

'In hospital you feel like you are just a lump of meat on a bed.  Here at the Marie Curie Hospice they speak to you as a person'

My goal is to Raise enough money to cover at least 1 weeks worth of 24/7 care.  Each hour is £20 so that means a target of £3360

Thanks for anything you can donate to give the dignity and care that is SO important to terminally ill Cancer patients.
