Kelvin, a keen sportsman, died of prostate cancer on the day of the Olympic opening ceremony in London. He was 61 years young.

Each year, 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK, and prostate cancer kills 10,000 men every year.

Supported by other family members (listed below), we, Haydn and Malcolm (his brothers) have carried out a sponsored bike ride in memory of Kel, in order to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. The funds raised will contribute towards both raising awareness about prostate cancer as well as research into new diagnostic tests and treatments.

The bike ride took place during the period of 22nd – 28th August and we cycled from Newport (Kel’s home), to London (Haydn’s home), to Holland-on-Sea (our parents' home), and on to Norwich (Malcolm’s home). The ride covered a distance of over 470 miles.

The send off in Rogerstone and the welcome in Clacton and Holland-on-Sea stand out as highlights.

Our wonderful support riders were - Simon, Chris T, Chris P, Katherine, George, Ben and Wai. Other guest appearances were made for various sections of the route. Our behind the scenes supporters worked continually throughout the ride. We could have not completed the challenge without them.

The weather was varied. Rainy days cleared London of tourists and brought on a good number of punctures. The whole ride was much more challenging than anticipated, but the funds raised kept us motivated. Do see the pictures and story on the Facebook link below which has been brilliantly managed by Rob.
