Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I decided that now is a good time to run my first marathon and, in case it’s my only one, it ought to be for a good cause! 

I’ve been a non-executive director at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust since Jan 2020 and it has been a privilege to see close up the work the Trust does, not least through the Covid period. I’d like to support them via the Trust’s own charity - in particular the work on cancer, which is a key speciality.

I’ve a long standing connection to Guy’s. It’s my local hospital but more importantly to me it’s the reason my father came to London from Africa in 1948 to study medicine, so it’s a big part of why I’m here.  After a long career in medicine he died four years ago  having been living with prostate cancer for several years. I want to remember him and my Mum who we lost to breast cancer back in 1988. I will also be running in memory of my sister-in-law Andrea and an old friend, Pete, who both passed away of cancer early last year. Guy’s does great work in this field connecting the treatment of patients with its research to push forward the frontiers of the fight against cancer.
