                   Why pancreatic cancer?

Well this ls because early in 2009 it robbed society of a genuinely nice man. I know that term is used so often but in this case genuine and nice were written for this man.

Bernie was my father in law, he was Pam's husband, he was a father to Nikki my wife as well as her sisters and brother. He was grandad to my two children but most of all he was a friend to us all.

Pancreatic cancer has the worst survival rates of the most common cancers. Fewer than 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK survive more than five years. And less than 20% survive more than a year.

These figures have not changed for 40 years.

This is despite being the 5th most common cancer in the uk.

So in the memory of Bernie and as an opportunity to raise a few quid please help me to help others.

The run I am doing is difficult very difficult. At present I am running covered in bandages and constantly in pain and having to take a 4 day break before my next run. Since stopping smoking a couple of years ago, I do now carry a little excess baggage. I have completed distance races before and know whats involved but this race holds more troubles for sure. I am currently up to about 6 miles (1st August) and including as many hills as possible.

So in essence, im doing this overweight over worked and often over drunk (it helps with the pain) but im fortunate to be having a whole lot of fun training for it.

Im not rattling a tin can in front of you and accept every body has a choice in how they spend their hard earned cash.

Please feel free to just offer words of encouragement if you wish.

So friends, family, and friends Im yet to meet, Thank you so so so much for reading my page and best wishes and health to each one of you.

Paul.
