Story
So it’s that time of year again, the London Marathon is fast approaching and I am asking for sponsorship.... again!
I realised that some people might not think this is a challenge for me anymore; after all I’ve done it twice before so it must be getting a bit easy... and I can see their point. So this year I am doing a little bit more. Not only will I be running the London Marathon, but 5 months later I will be running the Berlin Marathon. Then two weeks after that, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon (plus I have already run the Reading Half Marathon a few weeks ago!).
This year I will be running for The Anthony Nolan Trust again, a charity very dear to my heart.
In 2001 a close friend of mine, Dominic, was diagnosed with Aplastic Aneamia and under went unrelated bone marrow transplants to treat it.
In 2006 he had a successful related transplant and Dominic has recovered amazingly!
A critical factor in the success of a transplant is the accuracy of the match between the patient's cell tissue and the donor's. Timing is also critical - once a patient has chosen to proceed with a transplant, the donor's tissue, in the form of bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells, must be available as soon as the chemotherapy has finished.
Dominic's transplant was made possible by the Anthony Nolan Trust who searched their transplant database to find a matching donor. The money I raise through running the marathon will help increase the number of donors on the list, which will help produce more matches to save more lives.
Donating as little as £20 is like giving up 5 pints of beer or a bottle of wine, a tiny sacrifice which will help save lives.
Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Anthony Nolan Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support
