Event: Bournemouth Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2016, on 2 October 2016
We provide support, guidance and resources to those affected by Williams Syndrome

Story

I am running the Bournemouth Marathon and this will be my very first one. I have always enjoyed running and find it a good way of keeping fit. I started off running the local Park Run which is a 5K run every Saturday morning on the Leas in Folkestone. I have managed to do a few half marathons, but thought I needed a bigger challenge - hence the marathon!

Currently I am following a 16 week plan ahead of the event on 2nd October 2016, and am up to 17 miles of non stop running - so only a further 9 miles on top of that and I would have cracked it!!

After talking to Ali Davies about this challenge she mentioned her daughters condition to me and so I decided I would help support this worthy cause.

"My youngest daughter has a condition called William’s Syndrome. It’s extremely rare and manifests itself in physical and mental delay. Despite this, she is an absolute delight and brings a smile wherever we go. Williams Syndrome is a rare congenital disorder that occurs randomly. It affects around one in 18,000 people in the UK.

All donations will go to the Williams Syndrome charity which supports
families through:

  • Being the first point of contact for individuals with Williams
Syndrome, their families and professionals providing support and information
    regarding the Syndrome.

  • Raising awareness of the syndrome amongst the medical
    profession

  • Actively supporting research into the educational, behavioural,
social, scientific and medical aspects of the Syndrome.

" - Ali Davies.

Any support or donations are appreciated!

About the charity

The Williams Syndrome Foundation was formed in 1980 and is run by parents for parents of children with this rare condition which causes heart and kidney problems and learning difficulties. It desperately needs funds to finance its ambitious research and family support programmes which include national conventions and regional meetings.
