Story

In November, I am taking part in Making Tracks – a cycling challenge event for the benefit of the Kenyan Orphan Project (KOP), a charity dedicated to helping orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. Our group of about 60 people aims to cycle 435km (270 miles) across Kenya from Nairobi to Kisumu over five days. The purpose of the event is to raise the awareness of KOP and its work and to raise the much needed funds to support its projects.

The Kenyan Orphan Project was started in 2001 by three medical students at Nottingham University in response to the worsening global problems of poverty and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Since then KOP has been working on health, education and social welfare projects with the aim to fight against poverty, disease, social exclusion and injustice amongst orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. You can learn more about KOP on its website: www.kopafrica.org.

The cost of the cycling event is fully covered by its participants with some generous help from a corporate sponsor, so everything you donate goes directly to the charity. In addition, I will match all donations (up to £600 in total) pound for pound. Even better, my employer has kindly agreed to further match – pound for pound – everything I raise, doubling your money again. That means that every £1 you donate is worth up to £4 (or at the very least £2) to KOP, and that’s before even counting Gift Aid or other tax benefits!

So please make your contribution to this very worthy cause. No amount is too small or too big – it all makes a difference!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
