Story

Christmas is almost upon us once again and if you are struggling to come up with an original, exciting innovative gift for me then let me make it easier for you, why not make a donation to JERSEY HOSPICE and help me reach my fundraising target for this “once in a lifetime” trip.  I am off to the verdant jungle of Costa Rica headed south to blaze a trail through unchartered territory with the help of a man and his machete, donkeys in tow and a few like minded enthusiasts by my side.

The highlight of the trip is, without doubt, the advertised “two Man tent” accommodation.  I have trawled through many holiday brochures but never been afforded such an opportunity.  I have put in a request for
an Italian, for obvious reasons- romantic, dark, smooth, suave and an
Australian, practical, strong, rugged and hopefully well versed in the art of “bush craft” – hence the intense training schedule which has found me walking the cliff paths at silly hours on a Sunday morning.
The result of which is that I have spent Sunday afternoon prostrate on
the sofa, but perhaps that in itself is good practice for the “TMT”
experience.  The kit list calls for a “silk” liner for our sleeping bag(s) –is this is a euphemism? – I better take a couple of spares.

I have ordered the “She wee”, I always wanted to pee standing up.  The Internet is a wonderful thing.  I realised this would be a necessity following a recent cliff path experience, squatting with a 3litre water pack on my back and realising that my Bambi style legs (currently in their 65th year of practical use) were struggling to get me upright again – now I understand what those Poles are for.

A diet of peas and rice should be fun, along with the snakes, spiders, scorpions and the promise of seriously wet feet for days on end (trench foot ?). Crossing rivers, climbing volcanoes, grade IV white water rafting, daily hikes of up to 17km  – what the heck have I signed up for and knowing my luck I will probably get a couple of Pygmies in my “TMT” – or am I on the wrong continent ?

Anything to avoid the Xmas shopping.  Thanks for your support – I might need it when I get back – if I come back…….

This challenge is dedicated to my two sisters, Judy and
Debbie who both died in their teens and never got to enjoy the crazy adventures of life.  Miss you both xx
