We fund medical research to find a cure for the rare disease A-T

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I agreed to take on this marathon challenge in Brighton initially at the beginning of last year and started training immediately. Training halted because of covid and then it got cancelled but I decided to run it anyway on my own. I am now delighted to say I was able to transfer that place to this year and swop it for London and get my brother involved 😊. I am really looking forward to enjoying the proper marathon vibes this time and running in our capital as well as smashing my time of 5 hours and 3 minutes!! L

What I need now is sponsership and I have to raise as much money as possible for Action for A-T!

The charity raises money for medical research to find a cure or medical advancement that will enable children who suffer with Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T) to live a longer and healthier life.

It effects sufferers by-

Preventing the correct fuctioning of the cerebellum and other parts of the brain, this gives rise to co-ordination and movement problems and with swallowing, walking and eating.  Most children will use a wheelchair regularly by the age of 10.

Weakening the immune system and causing increased infections which can over time cause chronic lung disease

Significantly increasing the risk of getting cancer in particular lymphomas or leukaemias. 25% of people with A-T get cancer and childhood cancer is common.

There is one reason why I have got involved in this charity and that is Jack.  Jack is my cousins son, he is 5 years old, he is the most scrumptious blond haired, blue eyed, loving, happy, cheeky boy that its hard to believe he suffers from this chronic complex condition that only affects 200 people in the UK. Both ofJack’s parents are carriers of the gene and his brother Harry is not affected.

A-T is a very rare complex genetic condition that affects my family and this charity can provide absolutely essential funding that could make a difference to the prognosis of its suffers. No-one else in the family is affected like Jack but to date we have discovered my Dad and 2 of his siblings are all carriers.  I need to get tested as my already increased chances of breast cancer could be further increased if I am a carrier.

Please dig deep people
