Story

London 2011 will be my 13th full-marathon - so why should you be interested in sponsoring me,  well marathons are extremely challenging events that take months of preparation and sacrifice,  knowing that people have pledged money gives you an extra push to get out of bed on  dark, cold, winter morning.

As the worlds biggest single fund raising event the is inevitably dominated by the big charities.  Through running for Cord I hope to raise the profile of the organisation and highlight the spectacular work done in helping people, at a practical level, to rebuild their lives after conflict through relief, rehabilitation and development.

Did you know that the cost to a charity of a Gold Bond place in the can be as much as £1500?  This means that runners have to raise at least this amount to cover the costs already incurred by the charity in getting a runner to the start line.  However, I have secured my own place so you can be assured that all of the money raised will do directly to supporting the continuance of Cords work overseas.

Cord is an international charity that works with people in highly sensitive and oppressive contexts to transform dysfunctional relationships into those that create peaceful & inclusive societies. Our vision, mission and values are inspired by the Christian faith. Our Vision is of a world where all people live in the fullness of peace; having the freedom to flourish and live free from fear. Our Mission is to transform dysfunctional relationships between individuals and communities and those holding power into positive and thriving relationships built on mutual dependency and trust. Cord works in partnership with local community based organisations to develop their skills, knowledge and expertise with a view to enabling them to more effectively advocate on behalf of communities with government, private companies, and others with power and leverage to impact the quality of life of disadvantaged communities.
