Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you probably already know, prostate cancer is one of the most
common forms of cancer amongst men. In my family alone in 2004, I
lost my father at 70 (Pictured) after 2 years fighting the disease.
Just 6 weeks before I lost my Dad, I lost my Uncle (61 Years). I have
also lost various family friends and other relatives over the years
from the same form of Cancer. As a result this year I have decided in
my 45th year to do something about it.
I was one of the lucky
ones who had a fantastic life that I shared with my Dad and was able
to spend his last moments with him telling him what a great guy he
was and how he would be missed. Had he been diagnosed earlier he
would still be with us now, unfortunately it was not to be.
Prostate
cancer is a curable disease if diagnosed early, but often goes
undetected especially in older men. As a cycling the Bealach Beag
http://www.handsonevents.co.uk/Events/Bealach/Beag_Route.htm cycle
route on the 8th May 2010. The route is only 43 Miles, bun includes
the UK's biggest road climb at 2053ft (626m) from sea level in just
6mls (10k). It is set in a fabulous unspoilt landscape with
outstanding views of the sea and the hills. The Applecross Peninsula
is renowned as a gem in Scotland’s crown of natural wonders.
As part of the challenge, I would like to raise as much money
as possible to raise awareness of Prostate cancer as well as raising
money for Maggies Centres throughout the UK.
So please give
generously.
Many thanks
Pete
