Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After the challenge of China, and generous donations, this time the fundraising will mainly be event based, although people are welcome to donate as well, as all the money will go to Macmillan. Jane and I are once again paying for the cost of the trip ourselves.
The first event was on the weekend Sunday 29th August 2010, worst weather day of the Bank Holiday, but not too wet! Nearly 80 guests, and with the silent auction, cake stall and cocktail bar, plus generous donations of wine, and spirits, plus most of the food, managed to raise over £2000 offline, and some online. Thanks to everyone for their support.
The event at The Race Centre in Chandlers Ford, was a fun event, with take away pizza free soft drinks and cider, although not as many teams as we had planned. We still managed to raise nearly £1100.
The Balvenie Whisky tasting was last night Sat 12th March 2011, a tutored tasting by Dr Andrew Forrester, and including a bottle of The Balvenie for each participant, 10 people turned up on the night, although 15 had paid!! We managed to raise another £700 +.
The next event is an outdoor go karting race on May 21st at Thruxton, together with an auction. If you have prizes to give, or auction items please let me know. The cost per team is £395, maximum 10 people, maximum 18 teams. We aim to raise over £4000 here.
The Peru challenge is different to China as it involves trekking the Inca trail at altitude, and there aren't many steps!!!!! It is at between 2900M and 4200M, so will be a real challenge because of this.
Sadly my Aunty Joan died in June 2010 from cancer. She was supported by Macmillan, and my wife Jane has a small skin tumour, that needs to be removed, although thankfully the doctors say there is nothing to worry about.
My training partner - Oska - our Hungarian Vizsla sadly has TCC, an agressive form of bladder cancer, so we may lose him before the trek, but he is currently surprising the vets, as they didn't expect him to get to Xmas!
Cancer, this dreadful disease is totally indiscriminate. Whilst he is "only a dog" he accompanied me on all my China training, and so far on all my Peru training. We can get another dog, but you can't replace friends or family, so we must continue to support Macmillan in any way we can, as their support for people fantastic.
So please dig deep if you can, attend the events, donate prizes, or just put your change into the Macmillan pots on many counters. Thank you
Peter
