Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. PLEASE NO MORE DONATIONS ON THIS PAGE, PLEASE VISIT MY PERU PAGE AND DONATE THERE THANK YOU

Well I did it!!!

90000 steps, 18 bowls of rice, high temps 33c on Saturday, rough camping, and lots of lives changed thanks to your donations.

It was tough and challenging but worth it. What a challenge, on un restored parts of the wall, and a ridge that only Macmillan are allowed to use. 1000ft drops, narrow ledges, rough uneven paths, slippery underfoot, steep ascents and descents.

Thanks to all the Discover Adventure team, Marco, Jen, Jenny, Dr Henry ( who looks too young to be a doctor!) and Hayley from Macmillan.

An emotional rollercoaster and a great group of people, of all ages including Roy aged- well older than me but on his eighth challenge! Well one down and ,more to go for me.  am going to keep this page open and will be doing Peru for Macmillan next year!! No I won't be coming for sponsorship this time, It will be event based, and will run the cheese and wine into the summer with a BBQ. Once again I will pay the cost of the trip myself, so all monies raised will go to Macmillan.

I will look to companies for gifts for the Auction, I already have 2 tickets to any Liverpool game next season ( not Everton or the next big 4!!) and an offer of a weeks timeshare in Spain. Will be running a wine tasting event near Xmas with wine for sale by the case. Plus other events, suggestions welcome.

Some pics attached, and I will be updating this note soon, just got back so a little jet lagged! Thanks to all who have supported,

Regards Peter

I have added some photo's from a previous MacMillan trip, which show some of the challenges!! Looking forward to it, and it is getting scarily close!

In a moment of madness, I committed myself to undertaking a trip that involves walking part of the Great Wall of China, but for a good cause!

There are a number of reasons I am doing this challenge.

FIRSTLY  I AM PAYING THE FULL COST OF THE TRIP PERSONALLY, SO ANY DONATIONS YOU MAKE WILL GO DIRECTLY TO MACMILLAN - YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR MY TRIP!  SO ALL DONATIONS WILL GO TO THIS GREAT CAUSE, AND I BELIEVE THAT YOUR PERSONAL DONATIONS CAN THEN QUALIFY FOR GIFT AID.

The trip is 24th April - 4th May 2010

The second and main reason, is to raise money for this great cause. Cancer affects many people, but not only those who get the disease, it also affects all those close to the family member or friend. Sadly like me many of you will have had the experience of a family member, or friend or both who has been through the trauma of dealing with the disease.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. They can all help. We are Macmillan. You can visit their website on www.macmillan.org.uk

The trip is a challenge, 11 days in China with 8 spent walking the wall, between 5 and 8 hours per day, or alongside it where it is incomplete, rough camping overnight, or spending a night in a remote village with chinese families. It is a challenging and changing environment, we will walk for between 5 and 8 hours a day for 8 days, and although the distance covered is only circa 80K, it is the terrain that will be difficult. ( And the rough camping - using the Paula Radcliffe designed toilets - hopefully without the crowds of people and the TV cameras!!!!)

I have been training since 2nd September, and to date (14th April 2010) I have covered almost 1100 miles, and by the time I depart for China I will have covered over 1100 miles, probably need a couple more pairs of boots, and lost a significant amount of weight! ( About time I know).

I will be organising a cheese and wine evening, already had some commitment to provide the wine, and offers of help on the cheese, hopefully with some great auction prizes, Kenny Dalglish has given 2 tickets to a Liverpool game (not big 4 or Everton, but a gesture all the same!), and I will let you know the dates and venue, if any of you can attend, that would be great. It will be towards the end of May, so I can bore you with the pictures!!!

If any of you in the corporate world, even in these difficult times, would like to match the cost of the trip as a donation, I will have your logo's embroidered on my kit, and obviously mention you in all dispatches! ( The amount is circa £1400)

If this is too much, then a donation of over £250 will also qualify for logo's on my T shirts and Jacket, with the pre requisite photos from China and press releases.

All donations are welcome however small from £1 to whatever you can afford or spare, and as we all know "Every little helps"!

Thanks for taking the time to visit.

Regards

Peter
