Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - @13/6/10  I've received cheques direct to the Paralympics charity and cash donations which have added a whopping £375 to my total, so huge thanks to the following: Wattley family, Penningtons solicitors, Sarah Wongvichit, the Carter family, Barbara Welfare & my Mum's carer friends.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The Deloitte Ride Across Britain takes place over nine days covering 1,000 miles. The first ride in 2010 starts at the crack of dawn on Saturday 12th June at John O’Groats in Scotland, and finishes on Sunday 20th June at Lands End in Cornwall.  Please log into the following link which describes the journey we will be doing.... you will understand why it grabbed me the moment I read about it.

I want to share with you the reasons for this epic ride, why it means so much to me, and hopefully will be an inspiration to many…. and of course raise a lot of money for such a worthy cause.

The story I want to tell goes back to 1973 to this time of the year. A young boy who hadn’t quite reached his eighth birthday was inspired by a talk at school about disabled people. The school wanted to raise money to buy a “wheel chair” for use at a pilgrimage in Lourdes. This young boy wanted to help so much, and without his parents knowledge, he took his entire savings from his money box to school as his contribution.....

ParalympicsGB are responsible for ensuring Britain's top disabled athletes are best prepared to produce medal-winning performances at the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. With London 2012 approaching it has to work harder than ever to keep Britain at the pinnacle of the Paralympic movement and enable British athletes to produce their lifetime's best performances in front of the home crowds. It has to raise the money to meet all the costs this entails.

When people watch Paralympic sport they stop seeing the disability and start seeing an elite athete, changing the way they think, feel and behave towards people with a disability.

For young people who may tragically be struck down with a permanent life changing injury or illness, I hope that they can draw strength from seeing our paralympians achieve against all the odds and be successful and compete for this country on the world’s biggest stage, the London 2012 Olympic Games. This ride for me is a challenge and hopefully an inspiration to others. I believe if you are determined enough to meet a challenge, it can be overcome. The paralympians are truly an inspiration to us all, and not only to people who have disabilities. Whatever difficulties life throws at us, life is worth living for and living to the full.

I am looking forward to this challenge of 1000 miles in 9 days with nervous anticipation and worries about saddle soreness. I’m not sure if I have done enough training but I should be ok, drawing strength from that little boy in whose memory I will be riding.

......Robert Motchman my youngest brother died suddenly and tragically on 22.5.73, his birthday 21st June is the day after we finish.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you
