We care for patients and support families to help patients lead a fulfilling life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Keech Hospice Care opened the doors of their children's hospice on 28th March 2000 and over the past ten years have supported more than 500 children with incurable diseases and their families. This service can only continue with support from donations since 75% of the £6 million required each year comes from this means.

Keech Hospice Care are enormously grateful to all the people and organisations that support them – without them hundreds of local people coping with incurable conditions would no longer receive the care and support they deserve.

Compared to the mountain to be climbed by the patients at Keech, trekking to Everest Base Camp is by far the easier option of the two!

The trek takes place within Nepal and starts from Luklar which is about a 40 min flight from Kathmandu.  Thereafter, the next 10 days are spent trekking on rough tracks to Everest Base Camp and gaining 10,000 feet (3,000m) in height to reach an altitude of 18,500 feet (5623m).  The biggest problem is not the 75 miles (120 km) covered but acclimatisation and allowing the body to adapt to the low oxygen levels.  However, once the high point is reached the remainder of the time is spent going down hill to return to Lukla!

As I am financing the trip myself, all money you donate will go directly to Keech Hospice Care, so please dig deep and donate now.
