We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Hi All

I've taken the plunge and decided to brace the cold, dark, murky waters of Windermere to swim a mile for charity.  I really wanted to do the swim last year but was unable to due to traveling so it's a must this year!

Even though I used to swim, I've never competed in a race such as this (i.e. outdoors, in the cold, in a wetsuit) - I'm thinking the warmth of a warm, indoor swimming pool is looking far more appealing!

The Great North Swim 2009 takes place on Saturday 12th September 2009.

If you would like to support me on this then any donations (however large or small) would go to the Guide Dogs charity (http://www.gdba.org.uk/) as I feel this is a very worthy cause.  Donations will help the charity to provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people.  They also campaign for the rights of people with visual impairment, educate the public about eye care and fund eye disease research.

Thanks in advance for any support you give, it is hugely appreciated.

Cheers!

Philippa

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
