We provide support, services and advice to help autistic people and their families
Story
I'm riding 60 miles from Woking to HMS Victory in on 11 September 2010 to support the National Autistic Society.
It's been more than three years since I rode the bike but I'm sure the rust will come off and I'll get it working. Of course I can shed a bit of excess, ahem, 'muscle' around the midriff. I have no doubt that I have the legs of a 20 year old.
Around 1 in 100 people is autistic. Struggling to understand the world; they have problems with social communication, interaction & imagination. It’s a lifelong condition without a known cause or cure.
Nico (my elder son in the photo) is autistic. He's 5 years old and can't speak so he is frustrated; has little imagination so he can't occupy himself; doesn't understand people or what drives us nuts; has sensory problems so often becomes 'overloaded' and melts down; he is hyperactive and has a sleep disorder & has various other issues common in autistic people - he is highly challenging.
The NAS is working to support autistic people and those who care for them. They're really helpful. Thanks,
Phillip & the National Autistic Society.
The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and
create a society that works for autistic people.
There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.
