Story

On Saturday 18th May 2019 we will be travelling to Brazil to start a 9-day challenge of a lifetime in the Amazon jungle to raise vital funds for the Air Ambulance.

During our challenge we'll be put to the test as we trek through the middle of the Rainforest with high temperatures and humidity; sleep in hammocks we will need to set up ourselves; fish for our own dinner and row down (or up) the Amazon……… this is no Spa break!

If you know us, you will know that we are more accustomed to high heels and cocktails rather than walking boots, water rations and camping……..(and we really don’t know how we are going to live without straighteners!). So why are we going to put ourselves through this test of endurance?

We started to partner with the Air Ambulance in 2014 after a Phoenix Group colleague who suffered a heart attack at work was saved by the Air Ambulance.

Since then we have seen and heard some incredible stories, meeting crew, doctors, and survivors along the way. Not in our wildest dreams could we have imagined the lengths that these teams go to risking their own lives to save others. Their work is truly remarkable and every single day, they save lives.

In a major incident, the team’s expertise in dealing with traumatic injury, scene management and multiple casualties make a genuine difference to patient outcomes. But it isn’t just the patient; it is the people around them who could easily face life changing experiences. One patient in particular, Natalie Queiroz was viciously attacked by her partner who stabbed her and her unborn child a total of 24 times. Her vital organs were damaged as well as the main artery in her wrist severed. Remarkably, Natalie and her baby survived, but if she had travelled by road neither she nor her unborn daughter would have made it and their two eldest daughters would be without a mum and baby sister. The hospital to this day says it's a miracle that they survived - The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity makes these miracles happen.

So, whilst we are nervous, excited and wondering how on earth we will achieve such a challenge all at the same time, we know that the money we raise really will make a difference. It’s the final year of our 5 year partnership and we are close to raising 1 MILLION pounds for the Air Ambulance over this time. 2019 is the year to smash that target!

No one knows when they may need the services of the Air Ambulance, so please dig deep and help us raise funds to ensure that anyone who needs them in a life threatening situation can get the best chance of survival.

(and it is Tamar and Sally in a jungle….. who wouldn’t want to contribute to Charity to see that!...)
