Story

I did it!

And boy it was wet. And muddy. And a little cold. Smelling of a rich, rancid bog with a hint of horse manure, I was made to sit in the back on the way home, sandwiched between the two kids, but I think Daisy would've preferred me to be in the boot with the dog... "Eeugh - you smell Mummy!"

Thanks so much to everyone who sponsored me, and if you didn't get a chance, you can still make a congratulatory offering over the next week or so!

And if you missed what this was all about, here's the story. I ran this race for Felix, my daughter Daisy's classmate, and other children suffering from Neuroblastoma.

On Valentine's Day last year, five-year-old Felix was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an extremely aggressive childhood cancer which Felix has been fighting like a true superhero.

Since his diagnosis, Felix has been going through a relentless series of treatments, including aggressive chemotherapy, surgery and internal radiotherapy, stem cell transplant, high-dose chemo, immunotherapy and 5 cycles of antibody treatment.

Whilst Neuroblastoma affects around 100 children a year in the UK, survival rates are low and the treatment regime is extremely harsh. There is no government funding for research into the disease, and money is desperately needed to improve survival rates. New breakthroughs are being made all the time with childhood cancer – Felix is now being treated with life-saving drugs that aren’t available to him in the UK – so sufficient funding can make big strides towards eradicating this terrible disease.

Felix is now being treated at the Royal Marsden by Professor Andy Pearson, a global expert on Neuroblastoma. He is at the forefront of research into finding a cure and your money will go towards funding a researcher who is dedicated to Neuroblastoma, to improve survival rates and find drugs that are easier for children to cope with. This could make a big difference very quickly.

If you’d like to find out more about Felix and about Neuroblastoma, take a look at his website on http://www.appeal4felix.com/

Thank you for sponsoring me!
