Story

Thank you for looking at my page.

My name is Richard (Frenchy) and I was medically discharged from the Army after 17 years service including seven operation tours. Three of them in Helmand Province, Afghanistan where I was wounded twice.

After my medical discharge I was struggling with civilian life, dark thoughts and PTSD really crept in and I found myself struggling. My family, a close friend and running is what saved me! So when lockdown two was announced and I knew how many others were suffering as I had been, I came up with the idea of getting my fellow wounded and PTSD suffering friends into long distance running to help with their mental health.

As well as this I wanted to raise money to buy essential kit and home modifications for my friends who were so severely wounded in Afghanistan. These legends gave more than any of us can imagine and now left with life changing wounds they need our help to buy items that will make their lives that little bit more normal.

Items like a device that loads their wheelchair onto the roof of their car and back down so they can go to the shops without a carer. Modifications to their kitchen so they can wash up, cook and move around in their wheelchairs without obstructions and issues. Simple things that we all take for granted.

This is extremely personal to me as Lee and I (both in my photo above) were serving as a sniper pair in Helmand when he stepped on the IED that caused these horrendous wounds. I was the first person to him and conducted the medical treatment on his legs while we waiting for his medical evacuation.

In exchange for your generous donations I promise you a front row seat to myself and 14 friends & colleagues going through an enormous amount of pain as we run three ultra marathons (plus hundreds of miles of training).

Races:

1. 50km Centurion one community - This one is virtual but I'll be running it over the South Downs way with 4000ft of elevation. www.centurionrunning.com

2. Salomon Serpent Trail 100km - 100km with 6000ft elevation over the South Downs serpent trail. www.serpenttrailrace.com

3. Ultra-X Jordan - 250km over five days through the Wadi rum desert. Sandy feet and blistering temperature will ensure blisters, rubs and pain from the start! www.ultra-x.co/jordan

Please follow us on instagram for updates of our training, races and of course how your donations are spent. @coldstreamguardsultrateam
