We help Ugandan children with disabilities to reach their true potential

Story

In December 2018 Mark Williams will be setting out on his toughest challenge yet.

The first event on December 1st is Running the Rift; a full 26.2 mile Marathon. An Equatorial race at altitude, temperatures are high, downpours sudden and heavy and the hills unforgiving.

December 8 is a Brutal 200km cycle Ride through the depths of the Rift Valley; from Kyaninga Lodge, down to Lake Albert, the lowest point of Uganda, then back to the lodge, with over 3000m of climbing, before darkness falls...

The hard part then begins as I set out, solo and unsupported, to cycle around 1200km through Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to the Machame Gate of Kilimanjaro, where, I will be attempting to Climb the worlds highest free standing mountain. All being well, reaching the summit on December 29th, before returning to ground on New Years eve.

My cousin Steve and his wife Asha discovered first hand the many challenges faced by families of children with disabilities when their son Sidney was born with Cerebral Palsy. They struggled to find any support or rehabilitation services locally, and had to travel over 300km to Kampala regularly for physiotherapy appointments.

My challenge is to raise funds for the Kyaninga Child Development Centre, which was set up following their struggles with Sidney, when they managed to persuade a British physiotherapist to come and work with them for 6 months and give Sidney an intensive period of therapy and start what they thought would be a small centre to help some of the families they had met on their journey helping Sidney.
