Story
The Mission
In early January 2018, a group of friends, who all work together as engineers at Jaguar Landrover, decided that we wanted to push ourselves beyond our limits by running as far as we could. After much discussion, we all agreed that the Equinox 24 hour running event would be "the one". The idea of this event is for our team of eight to run in relay formation, each completing up to 40 kilometres non stop for 24 hours starting midday on 22nd September 2018, running through the night and finishing at midday on 23rd. By taking on this challenge, we will be raising awareness of a condition known as DiGeorge syndrome and also raising money for the supporting charity Max Appeal.
The Cause
One of our band of brothers, Colin North, has a little boy named Henry who is 6 months old and suffers from a condition known as DiGeorge syndrome (22q11 deletion) DiGeorge syndrome is a condition present from birth that can cause a range of lifelong problems, including heart defects and learning disabilities. The severity of the condition varies but some of the most common issues are;
Delays in learning to walk and talk
Speech and hearing problems
Heart problems and hormone problems
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Autism
Bone, muscle and joint problems along with curvature of the spine and rheumatoid arthritis
There is currently no cure for DiGeorge syndrome so by competing in this event, we hope to raise awareness of the condition and raise as much money as possible for the supporting charity Max Appeal. Any money raised will go towards helping children like Henry around the world.
