Story
When walking is your only option for getting about, life can be hard. People living in rural Africa often walk for miles each day to fetch water, or to get to school or work. A bike can change someone's life.
Re-Cycle is a UK charity which sends bikes to people in Africa. Since 1998 Re-Cycle has sent over 111,000 bikes to Africa; 10,600 in 2019 alone (21containers).
Cycling across Africa is a challenge I have chosen. The individuals and families who will benefit from the use of a bike to get to school or work or collect water or firewood do not have the luxury to choose the challenges they face daily.
The challenge:
I'm going to try and cycle from Cairo to Cape Town.
- 11,000 km / 7,000 miles
- 10 countries
- 4 months
- 112 nights in a tent
I have no doubt that this will be the biggest challenge of my life.
Please help me raise money for this charity to help provide people with bikes which can improve their lives enormously. More children will be able to attend school, those without transport can access jobs or transport goods to trade and increase their income to support their families.
Please note that my employer (Bunzl plc) will match every donation made before 10 January 2020, meaning whatever amount you donate before then will be doubled!
Please remember to add gift aid to your donation, which means increasing your donation at no cost to you if you are a UK taxpayer.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I will be posting updates during my ride on my blog: https://cfctct.wordpress.com/contact/cycling-from-cairo-to-cape-town/
Thank you very much indeed for your kind donation.
