Story
So back when the weather was sunny and the days long a group of us (the IM3 8) decided that we would do the Boston Marathon (http://www.bostonrowingmarathon.org.uk/Marathon.htm) to raise some much needed funds for the club's redevelopment. Now the days are getting colder and shorter and for once what we were talking about doing is becoming a reality. Since initial talks began we have recruited one lone sculler in the form of Lee, a cox and a sub for those members of the team who are going to extreme measures to not have to do the marathon, at the last minute Christopher and Grandma decided they wanted to join the fun...
I'm sure you are all wondering why on earth would a group of people who otherwise appear sane would decide to put themselves through 31 miles of pain and blisters. Well the answer is simple, to raise money for Reading Rowing Club!
The club wishes to grow, to improve the extent of community rowing and improve competitive performance.
To do this the club needs to:
• Improve the changing facilities
• The current women’s changing facilities are sized at 25% of the male provision. They are now totally inadequate for current demands and are a major constraint on expanding
female membership
• Better provision is required to cater for young people and for ethnic groups. Currently there is no provision
• Provide disabled access. Currently no provision
• Maintain and improve storage of boats, oars, coaching launches and training equipment to cater for increased membership and to provide facilities to improve performance and improve the provision of recreational rowing
• Improve coaching and progression for rowers - to improve both performance and community participation
• Extend the membership
So now you know the why so please dig deep and donate what you can!
