Story
I am running the 2010 London Marathon in memory of my father and my Aunt who both died of Pancreatic Cancer in the last 18 months. This has been a very harrowing time for me and my family, and I both want to highlight the viciousness of this disease as well as doing something positive in both their names.
Both my father Michael and his sister Sylvia had a wonderful zest for life and particularly in my father's case with his love of sport, the arts and his love of Devon where he settled with mum 15 years ago. He was forging a fantastic relationship with his grandchildren when he was diagnosed with the disease and he died 3 weeks later. His sister Sylvia was similarly diagnosed and survived for 12 months.
Pancreatic Cancer kills 97% of those diagnosed within 12 months and one of its most famous casualties Patrick Swayze again highlights it is no discriminator of age. Please read, if you get the chance, the website for Pancreatic Cancer UK and please give generously. I will keep you updated on my training and performance in the 2010 London Marathon.
With thanks,
Dan Reeves.
