Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My brother Jules sadly lost his fight against alcoholism on Sunday 23rd October at 11.55. I watched him take his last breath in his hospital bed as his organs slowly shut down and felt a mixture of emotions - overwhelming sadness to see my only sibling gone coupled with feeing cheated that someone so young (he was only 56) and so brilliant wasn't able to battle his long addiction with alcohol despite everything he had achieved, everything he had to live for - the family and friends that he had and who loved him very much. Many on us drink but in moderation - where does that fine line start and finish ? Alcoholism is an illness so please help us to raise awareness by making a donation to Alcohol concern so that we can make a difference and perhaps prevent another family or families from going through the pain and loss that we are.
I also wanted to share the poem that i wrote about Jules and will be reading at Jules's funeral - thank you for remembering Jules - loved and lost but never forgotten and always in our hearts your little Sister always Ewa x
JULES
Brother, son, uncle, friend and a man with an incredible mind
Jules was truly an intelligent chap and one of a kind
He lived his life in a way no others did on the edge and against the rules
Or as he would put it most people in this world are a bunch of fools
His adventures took him far and wide across the globe and many a tale he had to tell
He hoped one day to publish a book of his life that he would be able to sell
A latter day Hemmingway or Che Guevara is how he saw himself – a hero of his kind
But amidst his knowledge and pride a place in society he was never able to truly find
An eminent historian who was able to recount every battle and king that ever lived
From Bosworth to Trafalgar his passion and enthusiasm for history he never ever hid
His greyhound called Kilumney Boy was a beautiful animal and gave him lots of fun
But he was never the fastest on the track – after all greyhounds need to run
Let’s remember the other passions in his life – tennis, golf, cricket and horseracing too
He was always placing a gamble or a winning bet or two – the etiquette he really knew.
The telegraph crossword was a breeze for Jules to complete even after a drink
OMG how hard it is for most of us but he could complete it without even having to think
Crystal palace was the love of his life he always though it better than having a wife
He supported their every match unfortunately unable to see this year’s FA Cup a sad moment of his life
Jules you are free from your demons now and may you rest in peace with Dad
I know you are safe and free from pain with your best friend and I am so glad
We will take your ashes to Montecasino as was your dearest wish and dream
So you and Dad can once again be a formidable golfing partnership and son and dad team
We will miss you now your time is up and you are gone away from us
I know you are watching thinking what’s all this fuss,
I watched you take your last breath away from this mortal earth which was hard
But each and every one of us has a time when we must leave and the time was up on your card.
Have fun and be free and please make sure your next drink is a cup of tea
