Story
FOAG is a local Worcestershire charity who supports people to work out of poverty rather than rely on hand outs. The charity has been going for 38 years and is focused on improving the social and economic development of Uganda's rural communities.
30-50% of produce is lost to poor post handling of the harvest and storage. The project we are supporting provides training, support, and the tools such as silos, hermetic bags, tarpaulins, moisture meters, etc to help preserve most of the harvest, this means poor farmers have more food with which to feed their families.
The project will also provide a purpose built community store for securing food in the area for the local community. The project buys the surplus food at a 10% premium during harvest time, local farmers benefit from the additional income, FOAG store it locally. Later on in the year when food is getting scarce and expensive FOAG open the store, distribute the food at affordable prices as well as a percentage of food is handed out to the poorest for free.
The money from the sales is reinvested in the scheme year on year. FOAG has two stores and the money we are raising will help fund a third.
