When I raised money for my sons charity in March 2018 by completing the Paris marathon, it nearly ‘finished me’ and I swore never to run
another marathon. Well, true to my word I am not although when you read what I am doing now I wish I was! In 6 weeks’ time on Sunday 1^st March I am competing in the famous Swedish 90km (56 mile, double marathon plus) Vasaloppet 2020 race. Cross country skiing, it is the ultimate challenge in their country and I am not running a marathon but doing more than two marathons running on skis!

It will be an enormous challenge for me not helped by the fact I have never cross country skied before although I am about to go to Sweden to learn – I hope it comes quick. Again I am raising money for my son's
charity SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) UK to contribute to the key work
they undertake to provide support to those who suffer from this terrible
condition and seek to find a cure.  To ask for support again from those I
know means I have to undertake a challenge worth supporting and I believe this is. I have never been worried about not completing a big physical challenge before, but there is fear this time nagging at me, however, I will give it everything I have got and leave ‘nothing’ out there in my quest to complete this. I hope to finish the event in 12 hours, which is likely to be dark!

Anything you can spare would be gratefully received for this
important cause. The pain I have gone through losing 3 stone, learning to rollerski (and langlauf shortly), coping with injuries and the hours of
training is nothing compared to those inflicted with SMA.
